Growth in ladies clothing sales

Room for growth

The ‘TU’ clothing range was launched in 2004 and it’s gone from strength to strength. TU clothing was in 290 stores at the end of the 2008/09 year and as less than a third of these stores carry an extensive range this shows the sales potential that increased space could deliver.

We apply the same values to clothing as we do to food, giving our customers, stylish, high quality clothes at a fair price. And all our best-selling standard T-shirts are now made with 100% Fairtrade certified cotton. That means farmers in West Africa get extra money for things such as water projects, food storage and schools. We’ve bought 10 times more Fairtrade cotton than two years ago helping farmers finance education for children in Mali. Fairtrade T-shirts are the biggest selling volume line with over two million sold in the last year. Over 40 per cent of customers bought a TU item, an increase of around 20 per cent.
